Signs of Spring
Over the weekend I have noticed a few signs that Spring is on its way, apart from the Snowdrops appearing and the Daffodils starting to sprout out of the grass. I have seen a few birds acting a bit 'frisky'
Has anyone else noticed that Spring is on the way

Re: Signs of Spring
Yes PHH - we were just saying yesterday that the birds were eating a lot of high energy things even though the weather is much milder, our suet cake, fat balls and suet shreds are all going down rapidly, and some very energetic bird behaviour as they are all showing off to each other.
The snow drops are beautiful and the daffodils are well on their way - I love this time of year.

I love this time of year too
Saturday down here in the 'shires was lovely. A nice fresh but sunny springlike day. I opened all the windows in my flat and let all the fresh air after the long winter days.
Then Sunday it piddled it down with rain!!!!!

Re: Signs of Spring
It certainly has been more Spring like, today has been amazing and yes all the Spring flowers are shooting up, today i've seen crocuses and snow drops and the Daffodils are springing up all over the place, it's going to be glorious.
The birds surely are more frisky and they seem to be chasing each other in flight but they do give me a bit of a fright when they just zoom off trees and into traffic and dart about before they have got much flight in the air, i've seen some near misses today
Apparantly my Aunty told my mum there is going to be snow on Wednesday though but not sure where....lets hope that doesn't happen.

Re: Signs of Spring
I never have any luck, been looking for a frisky Bird for ages, and it looks like you lot have them all We have had crocuses out for quite a while now I must try to get some pics of them. Sat here was like OH Yes spring is on the way, then Sun was Yuk, but this afternoon all though chilly, the Sun is out again, and that gives you that spring feeling

I noticed that the daffs were starting to break through as well. I believe we are set for more winter weather in the next week so the poor plants and animals will not know whether they are coming or going!

Thats what I have heard too SM. I feel really sory for the birds and the other wildlife, this weather is really mixed up and must be causing havoc for them as much as it does for us, except it doesn't affect our feeding and we don't have to survive outside.

Re: Signs of Spring
despite the horrid rain today the birds have been out in force today. my sparrow flock arrived and settled into the hedge outside my window. Even 2 blackbirds stopped their game of 'chase me' to visit me and of course the lovely Rodney the robin made several appearances.
It was also lovely to hear all the birdsong in the trees near my flat, yes spring is definately on the way

Re: Signs of Spring
The great thing is that as it's getting lighter earlier you can really notice the early morning chorus (well at weekends) it was lovely this morning.
We had all sorts of visitors today, and they certainly are eating a lot at the moment.
Not a sign of spring but a wonderful encounter with a badger just now crossing the lane (happily not too close to my car) but we had a great view and it made our evening.

Re: Signs of Spring
How wonderful to see the Badger Lai, i'm glad he crossed the road safely
Have you had snow then TB? that is definitely not spring like is it mind you it has been very grim here, no snow but it has been very cold and also very wet. The Spring flowers are still coming along nicely, so we know it's on its way but it has been a little more like winter these past few days. I can't wait for all the Daffs to come into flower, they are my favourite flower of all time, to me they represent sunshine and happiness
Whats everyone elses favourite Spring Flower?

Re: Signs of Spring
got to be daffs for me because of their colour and because I'm Welsh.
I suppose its not really classed as a spring flower but from the beginning of January onwards I always look out for the first sign of snowdrops. As soon as I see them flowering I know spring is on its way and I can deal with anything the weather throws at me

Bluebells for me - I know they are later than the rest but to see a wood full of bluebells is just magical to me.

Re: Signs of Spring
Lai / LW - agree with you both there, a wood full of Bluebells is a beautiful sight
I like anything that brightens up the place after winter, daffies, blubells, tulips, crocuses to name a few
Even in the cold north east of Scotland our hardie little snowdrops are also starting to push through

Re: Signs of Spring
Those Blue Bells really make you cheerful. Spring must be on the way we saw our first two Lambs today . Unfortunatly they were to far away to take a photo

Re: Signs of Spring
That really is a gorgeous pic Doogs when our Bluebells are out I will have to try and remember to take some pics and post them.
When I was doing my Nurse training WS, I used to come to Wales with a friend every Spring, we used to land ourselves on her parents who live in Pontypool and then walk all over the countryside looking for newly born lambs, I just love the little lambs as well as the big sheep

Pity the lambs were too far away to get a photo WS, maybe next time - SM could we get a cute little lamb on the emoticons, animals section ???
Glad you all like the BB photo - just an image I found when I googled Bluebells - A real photo from LW will be much better, looking forward to that
