Re: Signs of Spring
Just before 6.30am this morning there was a thump into our bedroom window and I'm sorry to say another little bird had had an accident. Within 3 minutes it was sitting up so I grabbed the camera and from the bed and through the glass so as not to alarm it, I took some photos.
This little Kingfisher was certainly off track as the river is the other side of the garden and although I've always tried to get photos of them they are normally very flighty and fast.
We were so pleased to see that after only 10 minutes it was up and away.

Re: Signs of Spring
Thats great news that it flew away, it does look a bit stunned. Shame about the accident, but lovely to see. Our feeding station is right next to the window, so although they do bump into it as they fly away.the contact is only slight .

How adorable is he Lai so pleased he was ok and no damage done. Something definiately attracts them to your window.....wonder if it's because the word has gone round that you will take their picture if they give your window a knock

Re: Signs of Spring
I know, I do worry about all that glass and these poor little birds, but although i've found sound stickers you can use that are supposed to help I am not sure if they do or not so haven't used them. So far this year no fatalities which is good news. Last year we lost at least one little Great tit.

Re: Signs of Spring
I've not heard of Sound Stickers before Lai. I imagine they are supposed to bounce back noise to the birds so they know that something dense is in front of them, if you know what I mean. Luckily it has not happened here but i'm glad there has not been any fatalities for you, that would be too upsetting. You'll have to let us know if you use the stickers and if they work.

Re: Signs of Spring
Sorry Littlewid and WS - that was a typo with the fast fingers, I meant to say, I've found some stickers but typed 'sound' not 'some'
Thanks for the links WS - the RSPB ones were the ones I was thinking about, so I think I'll give them a go.

Re: Signs of Spring
It may be the only close up photo of a Kingfisher I ever get Doogs i've tried when they are on the river but really hard as they are so fast in flight.
I've just ordered a packet of stickers from the RSPB WS - so will let you know if they work.
