Re: Signs of Spring
So nice to see the Daffs and Snowdrops PPH . The daffs are still emerging here, non in flower yet but hopefully not too long now before they all start flowering. I have seen a few Snowdrops along the way, I agree, they are a lovely flower. Thanks for sharing your pics.

Re: Signs of Spring
Thats lovely WS. Is it a Cherry Blossom? the Blossom looks too small to be a Magnolia.

Re: Signs of Spring
Walking to work the last few days I have been treated to the lovely song of a Blackbird singing his heart out. It lifts my spirits and definitely makes life feel a bit better despite me being out and walking to work @ 7am
I also noticed that the crocus are open and more daffs are poking their sunny heads out to say hello
Can't you tell I just love spring

Re: Signs of Spring
That's beautiful WS - our cherry blossom isn't out yet but we noticed down at Cheltenham it was all out, we must be a few weeks behind here. Daffs out and crocus and we will have lots of bluebells early May.

Re: Signs of Spring
Pete saw a couple of tits (not sure which ones, as he's not up on all our birds) going into one of our bat boxes with nesting bits.
Definitely one to watch

Re: Signs of Spring
That's a gorgous tree WS, it looks glorious doesn't it. Well worth the wait I reckon.
That does sound exciting Lai, you will have to keep us all informed with the progress of any little Tits.
I am with you PPH, Spring is one of the loveliest times of the year. Yesterday on the way to London we still go through quite a bit of the countryside and all the little Spring Lambs were out with their mums, just beautiful.

Re: Signs of Spring
Thats a great view PPH. I love it when the blossom, and the Daffs are all out. The trouble is they dont last long enough. Good news on the Tits Lai. With a bit of luck you may get a pic, then we'll know what sort they are

Re: Signs of Spring
When Pete tells me which bat box it is I'll go and watch it and see who is going in. Pete gave me a cam gizmo that I can set up somewhere which might be fun I just need to decide where and how to use it.

Re: Signs of Spring
I wish TB - we've not heard cuckoos here for several years - I know they were asking on Springwatch last year, it seems the cuckoo has completely vanished from around us. Such a shame, it was one of those wonderful sounds.
If we hear one I'll definitely let you know.

Re: Signs of Spring
We heard one here last year TB, and thats the first one we've heard for years, and as Lai says they did ask on Springwatch last year for reports as the numbers were droping. So if we hear anything this year we will let you know. I think it would be better if I set up a dedicated thread for reports to be posted on.
Great idea about the Cam, Lai if you can get it set up.

Re: Signs of Spring
while away in a hotel for work this week in newark, notts I was awoken around 4.30 by the beautiful dawn chorus. this was a good thing for 2 reasons
1. I forgot my alarm clock so it made me aware of the time
2. It made me happy for the rest of the day to hear such lovely song
I went on my first visit to a National Trust property and I finally bought a book an cd bird song identification so I can now know what lovely song I hear

Re: Signs of Spring
The dawn chorus is beautiful now and great that you can now id all the birds you are hearing PPH, definitely one to consider as I can only do a few although the RSPB site does have virtually all of them to listen too as well. Sadly I don't have an iphone but they have an app you can download with all the birdsongs and info.

Re: Signs of Spring
yes i know someone who has it, but i've only just got my phone so don't really want to change it again but i am tempted i'm hoping it will be available for other mobiles before too long
Let us know how you get on with the CD - how do they arrange the different birds? It sounds a great way to learn them all (well some of them)
