Re: Signs of Spring
We missed the Canada Geese Pete and I went to check and they've gone, hopefully all hatched successfully (although I know they are considered a pest) all that was left was the shells.
Plenty on the river and upstream but who knows if they were our family
Sorry to have missed the activity yet again!

Oh No. What a shame Lai, still as you say if there are lots on the river, hopefully the family are there

Re: Signs of Spring
That is a shame Lai, it would have been lovely for you to have seen them but lets hope they are all ok and maybe that was their plan, to hatch in secrecy and to subtle away without being seen.....good wildlife instincts

Re: Signs of Spring
Wilma, and Fred definately have some little Bam Bams, we saw Fred yesterday, and Wilma is coming on to the feeder all the while, she seems to prefer the fat cake, and you can see she is taking in her beak back to the nest. They have 5-7 eggs that incubate at around 12 Days, and fledge between 18 - 24 Days so hopefully I'll get some Bam Bam pics soon

Re: Signs of Spring
Fantastic news WS - that will be so exciting to see the little Bam Bams
I think our pair must be doing well, he is always coming for food, although I've not seen her so maybe she is on the nest.
Looking forward to more photos and updates WS

Re: Signs of Spring
Ours seem to be the opposite Lai, it's Wilma thats getting all the food, and taking it back, and Fred seems to be on gaurd duty. We've only seen him twice, mind you there's Magpies, and Crows around so perhaps he's staying to protect the nest

Re: Signs of Spring
Talking of magpies and worse still jackdaws, they have taken over the feeders big time. Sometimes 20 or more come in and trash everything - I am on vigil to see them off and let the little birds gets some food!
Our pheasants are all around still and they don't mind my eccentric ways but the jackdaws are really trying my patience
WS perhaps my Fred is a greedy woodpecker who doesnt taken his paternal duties seriously - he seems to be feeding a lot, then again perhaps she is still sitting on the eggs.
Lai
ps more good news this morning - our blackbirds (well one at least) has fledged, it was sitting outside my office door this morning! The dogs are now banned from going out until I can see it's safe. I wonder how many fledged? I love this time of year.

Re: Signs of Spring
We have lots of Magpies her Lai but I haven't seen a Jackdaw, but the magpies do scare off the little birds. Hope your vigil worked for the little ones.
You are right, this time of year is wonderful with all the little fledglings and I hope your little Blackbird is nice and safe and enjoyed his fledgeling flight without getting into trouble.
So far this year I haven't noticed any little fledgers in my garden like last year but I have seen lots of female blackbirds and also males, so the little ones must be somewhere.

Re: Signs of Spring
Good news re our birds/ducks. I've seen Mrs Duck and her 4 on the river (not sure which Mrs Duck) and also another Mrs Duck with 6+
Best of all Mrs Pheasant (light coloured one) came to the ground feeder tonight with her 3 chicks. They are gorgeous and happily fed whilst Fizal their very large dad strutted round the garden. They weren't bothered by the jackdaws, jays and magpies that seem to have taken over the feeders. I am hoping to see them again and get some photos but I was on the phone (no comments please WS)

Loving Freda and Fred WS they make a lovely edition to your garden. Mrs S's Spring flowers look gorgeous and it was brilliant to see Poppy in the doorway
Lai, it's time for less and more piccies please sounds like you have lots of little babies there which is wonderful.

Re: Signs of Spring
Great photos WS and beautiful flowers, i'm so pleased the bad weather didn't ruin them all. Fred and Freda look great, although Fred seems to be missing his Boddy's
I know Littlewid, I really must get the camera out and get some photos, I've missed so much in the garden and all the little birds too. No excuse and less this weekend is a must!

Re: Signs of Spring
A few photos from the last few days. All taken through the window
Fizal + two of his hens
Mrs P and two of her chicks
Mrs P - proud and protective mum
3 chicks - well two backsides and one side view
Goldfinch, Greenfinch and Chaffinch all feeding together
The magpies have now all learned how to use the feeders
We think another of the hens (a darker one) also has 3 chicks but they are smaller and even more elusive, so no photos as yet.
