Re: Rekero - News and Community
Littlewid hurry home today please - Rekero have a wonderful Newsletter update (which as you know i can't post the photos of - computer trouble)
It's just fantastic and i am thrilled as it mentions two of the people i met when we were there who were part of our J & A safari. It's Brad's photo they are using.
Can't wait for you to post it so everyone can read about Olive

Re: Rekero - News and Community
Doogs - it's the monthly newsletter that they e-mail. For some reason i am having a problem with my PC i can only post the text not the header and the photo!
It's so lovely i think we have to wait for Littlewid
oh just quickly, i've just flicked through my Rekero notes re the Ridge pride. We saw them on our 4th day - and i've just put - the Ridge Pride sub adults 3 lionesses and 2 cubs approx. 2 1/2 months old (this was Feb 2010). So i am researching more Doogs!

Re: Rekero - News and Community
Sorry guy's, didn't realise you were waiting for me.....apologies.....here is the latest newsletter from Rekero.

Leopards are not actually that rare. They are incredibly successful predators and their numbers are, in the main, not under threat. Nevertheless they can be difficult to see and sightings can often be fleeting. Fortunately for myself and Rekero regulars - Brad and Jasmine - our experience this last week was much more than just a glimpse.
With dawn approaching, John Kaelo took us along the banks of the Olare Orok River to the aptly named point “smelly crossing”. We pulled up to the edge and looked down onto the rocks on the other side. Sat there with her face bathed in the soft morning sunlight was Olive – a leopard many of our guests have been lucky enough to see. It wasn’t long before she started to call, the very same sound that we had been hearing in camp these past few days.
Moments later one of her 10 month old male cubs appeared and they greeted each other with much affection in that distinctive feline fashion. After a few minutes they moved off into the long grass on the other side, so we forded the river to gain a better vantage point. Olive and cub moved out into the sunlight and she called again. This time the second cub bounded onto the scene with youthful exuberance. We watched them for the next 10 minutes or so as they played together, providing a unique and golden photographic opportunity. Then as the sun rose Olive led her sons away into the thicker bush leaving behind some very happy safari goers.
Salaams for now
Rob
P.S. WE HAVE WILDEBEEST!!!!! LOTS AND LOTS COMING!

Re: Rekero - News and Community
Heres the latest Rekero Newsletter guy's......Enjoy
We had a slightly hair-raising night mid last week. On Wednesday a lion inconsiderately placed himself between the dining table and the kitchen just as dinner was ready to be served.
Amazingly, the courses kept coming and going via a complicated obstacle course through the night bush, all in order to give our uninvited guest the respect he deserved. The story didn’t end with our dessert; for once we had eaten we took the chance to carefully investigate further. With our lion now relocated onto the edge of camp we found, right outside the kitchen, that our resident porcupine had not been as agile as the waiters. There we discovered one sad little pile of quills, blood stains on the tree and the clear calling card of a large lion print. Our prickly little colleague is a loss, but has in the past few months become a bit of a pest, helping himself to our potato stash whenever the chance arose.
So for one night at least we were a porcupine down and a lion up and between them they made things a little different around camp. We are now just hoping that with the waves of wildebeest arriving, our lion will go elsewhere for his snacks. I am happy to report that so far so good!
Best wishes from us all,
Dudu

Thanks LW
What a great story. That Lion should go the the resteraunt in SMs Lion Burgher post today.
Then place himself in the same position. Perhaps he could have customer burghers. Then he could always say. Well it's OK to eat people in Africa so I assumed it would be OK here
