Re: Swan watch - From Stanwick Lakes
Family 1 still have six cygnets.
Not seen family 2 since, although think i may have caught a glimpse of them swimming just out of view yesterday.
On Friday I discovered family 3 had five cygnets but they were down to four yesterday.
I have to say, mission completed LW. Photo's of babies on backs!! Not very clear because I was a tad excited and they were a little far away and very poor light!
I also have to say they are all unbelievably cute!! Have some cracking close up's from yesterday. Just uploading now and will post as soon as I can

Re: Swan watch - From Stanwick Lakes
Now, I've been rather excited about my swan watch photo's all weekend. As i don't have a computer at home I have to wait till I'm at work to upload my piccies!!
Family 3
Friday 18th June:
I spy a little head on mummy's back
So so cute (was very happy with this pic)!!!
The family swimming off
Is that two little head's i spy on mum's back? It is!!
Such a shame the final pic came out blurry though I blame the light and not my excitement at all!!

What can i say? FANTASTIC, WONDERUL, AMAZING ...............truly great photos Anne-Marie. How great to have got the cygnets on mums back honestly that was so lovely to see.
Thanks so much for sharing, and for freezing on Saturday - it was so worth it (for us anyway )
You are so lucky to have these swans and geese around and the best bit is we get to share them!

Re: Swan watch - From Stanwick Lakes
On Sunday I did a slightly different walk, meaning I only had the opportunity to see family 3. Although going on some of pictures I managed to get I can't complain in the slightest.
This one is now my desktop background
A little video clip
Sorry for the hundreds of photos but they were just so cute and I couldn't decide! The parents of these cygnets are really just so tame! Although they don't like people on bikes or with dogs so thats good! I really couldn't believe how close we got, although we were so cautious, they were quite happy performing for the camera!!

They are soooooooooooooo sweet, i think you'll have to change your desktop everyday so you can use them all! It's amazing you can get so close, and i really hope they stay away from dogs and bikes - that's quite a scary thought.
Thanks again - it really makes my day to see them

I have just had an icky day, feel like..., well you know. So thought I would see what was happening on the forum before I say something to all the couriers that have had me running after them to close the security door!!!!!
Then I spotted AMs Swanwatch had new posts. Now I have the biggest dreamy smile on my face!!!! The sygnets are getting into some strange shapes to sleep.
The one you have on your desktop AM is stunning, such a cutie and they are starting to change from your last pics. Thank you so much thats brought a smile to my face.

I'm so glad you liked them!! Only a few to come from last night. Sad to say Family 3, the ones I spent so much time with on Sunday, are down to 3 babies found that quite sad. Still no sign of family 2, no pics of family 1 because they were just to far away. However, thanks to a trusty pair of binoculars I can confirm they still have all 6 babies

Re: Swan watch - From Stanwick Lakes
Thats so sad that Family 3 are down to three babies now Anne-Marie, I think it happens alot but that doesnt make it any easier does it and it must be hard for you as you have followed them so closely, lets hope the remaining three stay safe and close to mum and dad.
Fabulous pictures again. I really look forward to getting in from work and catching up on this thread.

Dinner sounds yummy Anne-Marie......put it on slow so you can get up there.....sorry .....no pressure
I can only imagine how you felt about the little ones, we are looking at pictures but you are actually seeing them and it makes a difference, lets just hope nothing else happens to the remaining ones.
Have a nice evening Anne-Marie

Re: Swan watch - From Stanwick Lakes
There once was an ugly duckling
With feathers all stubby and brown
And the other birds said in so many words
Get out of town
Get out, get out, get out of town
And he went with a quack and a waddle and a quack
In a flurry of eiderdown
That poor little ugly duckling
Went wandering far and near
But at every place they said to his face
Now get out, get out, get out of here
And he went with a quack and a waddle and a quack
And a very unhappy tear
All through the wintertime he hid himself away
Ashamed to show his face, afraid of what others might say
All through the winter in his lonely clump of wheat
Till a flock of swans spied him there and very soon agreed
You’re a very fine swan indeed!
A swan? Me a swan? Ah, go on!
And he said yes, you’re a swan
Take a look at yourself in the lake and you’ll see
And he looked, and he saw, and he said
I am a swan! Wheeeeeeee!
I’m not such an ugly duckling
No feathers all stubby and brown
For in fact these birds in so many words said
The best in town, the best, the best
The best in town
Not a quack, not a quack, not a waddle or a quack
But a glide and a whistle and a snowy white back
And a head so noble and high
Say who’s an ugly duckling?
Not I!
Not I!
Nothing at all ugly about them!!!

Re: Swan watch - From Stanwick Lakes
Just uploading photo's!
Family 1 still have their six cygnets again not seeing them very close, but still managed to get some nice pictures
Family 2, I have no clue. Still not seen the day after they hatched
Family 3 still have their remaining 3 cygnets. Had a bit of a panic as I could only see 2 initially but one was hiding in Mum's shade.
