We're flying Kenya airways, I'm not sure how good that is going to be!

I've never flown with them so can't say but am sure they'll be fine.

We flew with them from Nairobi to Mombasa and they were really good, staff were lovely. I bought a really nice pendant on the flight which I lost only recently when we took Syd to the local park for the first time - I was rolling about with him on the grass and he caught my chain with his paw and snapped it Unbeliveably we couldn't find the pendant even though we knew roughly where it was

that's sad Doogs - amazing how it could vanish and it looks very pretty. It could mean another trip of course

Re: Helpful Hints & Preparations for going on a Safari
Just realised a few posts ago you said you were previously married to a BA Pilot, very handy (at the time of course !) We've never had any problems with BA (touch wood) and tend to use them wherever possible.
Just had a look at Sarara, it loooks absolutely gorgeous, what breath taking views you have Pool looks amazing How brilliant to be going to such a small and intimate camp for the start of your honeymoon, perfect way to begin married life
I see that Samburu is a 2 hour drive away.

Funny thing is everyone thinks you get cheap flights etc etc but it's standby and the hostesses get on first as they know the people on check-in. The pilots are always last and quite often it was a nightmare or impossible! The BA airmiles are not from then but from my to-ing and fro-ing to SA. We've not had any problems either to be honest so use either them or Virgin to Nairobi.
I must admit Sarara does look stunning - that pool with a few sundowners and all those eles visiting what could be better? Off to check a map now. Is Samburu north or south then?

I can't find a map with both places on it Lai hope you might have better luck.
On the Sarara website its says "A short flight or two hour drive away is Samburu Game Reserve" but not sure in which direction

Sarara looks stunning. Hopefully we'll all get some amazing pictures.
Doogs, what a lovely necklace, such a shame it snapped. and just vanished. Speaking of pendants Lai, did you ever find your missing ele pendant?

No Anne-Marie - Pete pulled the machine out and looked behind and did offer to dismantle it, but I panicked and thought that might be the end of the washing machine One day when we can do that I am sure it will be found, it's so sad I loved my little ele necklace especially as my little ele then died.

So weird, how can something so small slip down into the mechanics of the machine never to be seen again I found a tiny link inside the drum but never the actual ele. I think I might have to ask Pete to tackle it this weekend now you've reminded me I would love to have it before I visit DSWT again.

Re: Helpful Hints & Preparations for going on a Safari
It's frustrating to lose anything but I always think it's worse when it's jewellery as even if it's not expensive it's usually got a sentimental value attached to it which makes it even more annoying when you lose it

Re: Helpful Hints & Preparations for going on a Safari
Thanks AM
I had a look on Kenya Airways website under their duty free section as you can pre-order your Duty Free http://www.kenyaairways.com/home/information_and_services/your_trip/on_board/duty_free_on_board/default.aspx?colm=shop_here but unfortunately that pendant does not seem to be available any more There is a similar one (see below) but it's rather expensive ($150), too expensive if you ask me - but very nice. I'm sure the one I got was $60 - you never know it might be in the sale if there's some stock left. If it is please buy it and I'll make sure you get the money

AM - weather has been very cold first thing in the Mara (not unusual) so do remember and take warm clothes with you. You can always take them off and discard them in the jeep once the comes up - I can honestly say you'll be amazed at how chilly it is over there in the morning

I'm taking a hoody, a fleece, woolly hat and gloves. Do you think that'll be ok? eeeeek. I'm no good with cold weather. I'm sure it'll be worth it though.

You'll be fine, honestly, I hate the cold also. It's just first thing if you go on an early game drive before the sun gets any warmth in it. Not sure about Governors camp but Rekero always have shukas (blankets) in their vehicles, so I am always toastie warm By 9.00am it's hot (mmmmm unless it's ).

Brilliant - same rate we got. Good idea to have some US$ as well, always handy and always taken in Kenya.
Do you fly on Friday then - and is it a day flight or an overnight flight?
