Yes it is - you can't go through Passport Control without having a Visa. There are loads of desks, can't remember exactly what it says above them but basically if you're Kenyan you go through x desks, if you're an 'import' you go through the y desks - it's very clear

Yes don't worry Anne-Marie before you get to the desk you'll see a table with forms on it and then it's sign posted where to go for the visa - although it has moved, I think it's easier now.

Just reading on Trip Advisor just now that the Visa has gone up to $50 (from $25) You can pay in Sterling (but it depends on the person serving you as to whether they will accept £ or not !) so it's safer to take $'s as they are always accpeted

It's a Dawa Doogs and it's got vodka, crushed iced, lime juice and honey. It's delicious when it's made in Kenya - here's a link. Let me know what you think, I've tried making it here but it doesn't taste the same, must be the lack of one ingredient - AFRICA and wonderful sunsets

that's funny Doogs
Definitely give it a few shots - it's really refreshing and of course honey is very good for you and as for the vodie it keeps the mossies away
Lai
ps just had my typhoid jab last night - Pete didn't need anything this time round so we're all good to go

Re: Helpful Hints & Preparations for going on a Safari
We leave the UK on 18th September and our wedding is (hopefully) Thursday 22nd. We then go to the north on Friday and end up in the Mara where we are hoping for a Maasai blessing. Jackson was talking about one they were doing last year a few weeks after we left and it sounded a lot of fun so we are hoping for similar.

So you're 7 weeks on Sunday that you leave the UK AM must be in the 5 week region for leaving the UK :?:
Are you waiting for the paperwork to come through confirming it's okay to get married ?
A Masai blessing with Jackson involved would be the icing on the cake, brilliant

Re: Helpful Hints & Preparations for going on a Safari
I guess you are right about Anne-Marie - she must be getting soooooooooooooooooooooooo excited what with her wedding and then going to see the DWST eles in Nairobi and then on the Governors Camp
It's more a case of sending copies of all our paperwork out there and sadly I had shredded some vital bits (Decree Absolute being one of them) just got one more piece to get together, an Affidavit to say we are both free and able to marry. John at Bush and Beyond is then going to the registrars office with it all. If all that is okay all we have to do is take all the originals with us and first thing on the 19th go to the registrars office get it all checked and we should be okay to marry 4 days later. We want to marry at Ngong House and I think after that we have to go back to the registrars office to have it all legalised. Mmmmmm it's beginning to sound quite chaotic Can you imagine if we forget something
We are really hoping Jackson will be around when we are at Rekero, but who knows. I'm going to get in touch soon to try and find out if he's there or at Naboisho.

Re: Helpful Hints & Preparations for going on a Safari
Hey Lai, how's the wedding plans going and have you been able to find out if Jackson is going to be at the Rekero when you're there ? He seems to be doing an awful lot of 'other' things these days that include a lot more travelling :|
M&S currency exchange was 138 yesterday and today it's 138.8 KS to the £ which I think is pretty good, do you agree with that Lai ? Do you normally take your KS with you or do you get it over there ? We normally take it with us but last time (2009) we waited until we got there as I read on TA that you got a good exchange at the Airport (just as you're leaving) but to be honest it wasn't that much better than what we could have got in the UK so think we might just get it here before we leave.
Has anyone ever bought foreign money online from the likes of Ice, Travelex etc etc ? Ice is offering KS at 142.265 to the £ which is obviously better than M&S but are these places reliable ?
I'm only 4 weeks on Sat until we leave for London All our documents arrived today from our Tour Operator. They were wrapped in lovely silver paper with bow and inside was a complimentary beach/safari bag with all our documents/papers, very nice :)
AM, what date do you leave the UK ? Have you got everything sorted for both your wedding and the honeymoon ?

Re: Helpful Hints & Preparations for going on a Safari
Um yes wedding plans, they are coming along I think! All paperwork now in Nairobi and we are waiting to hear if it's all in order. Plans for our UK blessing are also coming along, funny as I'm in the wedding business and don't seem to be getting far with my own - discussing flowers this morning so that's a start
I get my KS in the UK Doogs - either M & S or Thos Cook. I'm always cagey about online places, not sure why but just in case I suppose.
Can't believe it's only 4 weeks on Saturday for you - wow, how exciting. Sounds like your tour operator has a nice touch to them, giving you a safari bag - I love touches like that.
Still no idea about Jackson, or indeed who is at Rekero now - I am going to message Jackson closer to the time to see if he's going to be there, it would be fun if he is.

what do you mean you think !!!! It certainly sounds like all is in hand Lai and yes it must be strange putting the 'boot on the other foot' with regards to organising your own ! I'm sure you're on the ball with everything
When and where are you having your UK blessing ? Hope the discussions went well.
M&S Exchange Rate today: 139 :)
We're getting there girls

Re: Helpful Hints & Preparations for going on a Safari
We're having our Blessing on Saturday 8th October as we don't get back from Kenya until Tuesday 4th. As it's a Blessing we can have it anywhere so we've opted for our garden, weather permitting or our house if not. We went to B & Q and bought a small marquee so we've got cover for the garden in case it's tipping down! We want to have about 50 people max. so it's relaxed, informal and fun.
Flowers all organised so that's one more thing done - food to sort and what to wear? That's a real problem
Might whizz to M & S and order some KS then -
Yippee not long now
