Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
LW, it mentions on the website with the dog show that the dogs are rescued ones, so that's rather It is said to be a kids show, though then again, aren't I just a big one?
I do not know if I will go to see circus ring barkus yet. They are playing in some country town on the weekend of July 27-28, but not even sure where that town is exactly, plus it is my Mum's birthday at the same time.
Lai, I should have remembered them as Water Buck as WS has mentioned this before
Okay then, so more pics from Werribee
If the internet Gods are with us, here are some zebra...
Lesser Kudu!
Giraffey!

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
you really do have some lovely pictures the GR, I really love the one of the Giraffe bending it's neck back, I have never seen that before. Loving the Zebra too, they are an animal I really like.
How lovely that the dogs are rescued dogs. You will have to let us know if you do ever get to the show. It wouldn't put me off being a kids show, they are often very entertaining and we are all kinds at heart aren't we

GR,
"CC, how many years until the females begin to look at those brothers endearingly?" -
I am not sure, but I think the first weak attempts start when they are about two years old. But that does not mean there will be any results; I guess the real action starts when they are closer to three.
Great pictures of giraffes! I also liked the one bending it's neck most. But where are the cheetah pictures?
I mean, giraffes, zebras etc. are ok but....

We are all kids at around here LW, that's for sure

It sounds like whether it is closer to twenty-four months or thirty-six months will depend on the pro-activeness of the brothers But then again, with their love of I reckon it might be closer to forty-eight months
And yes, MUST get onto those cheetah pictures!!

I am not sure what birds these are, but recall the bus driver saying that they are typically very loyal, partnering up with another and then staying together for the long haul. Kinda like my grandparents

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
Well done for interpreting my "kinds" into Kids GR a good typo by me
Great shot of the Rhino, if I remember my Rhino shots from Whipsnade I think they are backside shots too lots of birds pair for life but I am not sure what those birds are either but they look fairly large, maybe Lai will know, she is good on birds.
Thats a handsome Cheetah he looks more male than female to me but I could be wrong.

WS might know...
You are right on the money about the cheetah LW. Two cheetahs in the Werribee Zoo enclosure and both are brothers

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
Another lot of gorgeous pics GR, that Hippo looks a right little barrel and I love how he is almost smiling in the picture behind the glass, its brilliant.
Loving the Bunny, I am a real sucker for Bunnies loving the pair of Stripped Pajamas.
I reckon the red soil is more like the soil from Africa, so it must makes them feel more like they are at home.
I'm glad I got the Cheetah right. I do try and see from head and body if animals are male or female and sometimes it's just instinct on a variety of animals. I don't know about anyone else or whether I am just very odd, but if you look at a picture long enough and really study the feel of the picture it tells you what sex the animal is..........Yes I reckon I am just extremely odd
Loving all those pics anyway GR........more please

Nothing wrong with being odd LW
Glad many are enjoying the photos. Lai, the other night it was actually uploading them every five minutes or so, so it wasn't too bad. The planets were most definitely aligning.
Or should I say alioning
LW, I like the smiling hippo too
More pics soonish, though not tonight as it's rather cold, so I'm going to sit out with the pooches on the couch in front of the heater and watch a Lewis episode

Alioning GR that's a funny one indeedy.
Hope you enjoy Lewis, I'm not sure Lewis or the repeats are on at the moment being summer, no doubt they'll be back again soon and then I can watch them for the 3rd time round

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
There was a Lewis that I watched a fortnight or so ago which had me smirking heapsy in one part The murders were taking place in the Botanical Gardens, and well, Hathaway kinda took a liking to the female worker there. There was a scene where he is questioning her, and then she explains where she was as an alibi (and it was with a guy, though not 'with' him), and then adds as a disclaimer, "Have I made it clear enough that he's not my boyfriend?" Hathaway does a double take and is smirking, and then sneakily whilst apparently going through 'proper procedure' (Lewis is watching from a distance) he gives her his card and says, "If you think of anything, please call me" or some such thing. Then he leaves her all graciously and Lewis goes, "Did you just bow to her?" Hathaway; "I think I did."

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
I got a nice email the other day from Zoos Victoria: Let me know if anyone has an idea for the rhino name!
Members, help name our baby rhino!
Dear Zoo Members,
We would like you to help us name our Southern White Rhino baby! At just 8-weeks old, she continues to get bigger and stronger every day. There’s just one thing that’s missing...her name!
She is already showing her unique personality and her keepers tell us she is very affectionate and loves the sunshine. In keeping with her heritage, we are looking for names that are African inspired. All names will be sent directly to our Keepers and Vets who will shortlist their favourite five names. We will contact all members who are shortlisted and you will get the opportunity to meet our baby rhino at Werribee Open Range Zoo on Tuesday 27 August!
The shortlisted names will be put to the public for final vote with the help of our friends at Nine News and Herald Sun. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter and we'll make sure to keep you posted!

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
Mmmmmmmmmmmm that's a fun idea to name her.
I'm not very good on thinking of names.
A few Swahili words
Sun/sunny = Jua
Affectionate = Upendo
Happy = Furaha
Lively = Uhai
Or you could suggest names in Afrikaans
Sunny = Sonnige
Affectionate = Liefdevolle
Happy =Gelukkig
Lively = Lewendige
(as you see Afrikaans doesn't quite roll of your tongue easily)!
More thinking needed GR.

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
When they said very affectionate and likes the sun I of course thought Summer! But that is not particularly Swahili or Afrikaans
A twist on one of your Afrikaans combinations could be....
Songlife
I like this name, not that I have given it much thought! But I think it's sweet.
For the Swahili options you would really need an exclamation mark afterwards, like with....
Juapendo!
