It's again Lai
I am not sure of the name of that tree, but it's huge and amazing. Next time I go there I will go up to and into it; imagine myself in some kind of fairytale.
Actually I generally do that in life anyhoo
Yes, those big cats were in fine form indeedy

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
So glad your internet allowed you to post all those pics GR I adored the other extra Meerkat pics you uploaded and also the one this time round, I sooooooooo them. Also the Hippo pics are great, love the underwater one, I am a huge fan.
Why do the trees have those wire wrappings round them? is it to stop the giraffs from shredding them?
I love that you have taken so many pics, you can never have too many or post too many......thats a hint for more
Love the WAA Award Frames WS and good choice of pics to frame Mmmmmmm I can imagine GR in that new sleep suit

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
I am a huge hippo fan too, possibly only behind the leopard and giraffe as my favourites. No, actually the jack russell is my favourite animal of course!
But really I am still in the very early stages of taking much interest in animals, so there is scope to learn more and like more and so forth.
I have a lot more pics to post LW, though internet is slow tonight. Shall get through more later in the week. I have many more meerkat pics too, but like to give each creature relatively even amounts of time in the WAA spotlight! Except for the leopards which I give some extra allowance too
I do not know about those wrappings around the giraffey trees, in fact I haven't even noticed them until now But you could be right about those tall dudes shredding them.

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
Good idea to post a few at a time GR means we always have something to look forward to and yep each animal gets it's time in the spotlight but I am also pleased you have more to post
Just had another look through the last ones you posted and I really like the two of the trees and the lake, they are wonderful views. How big is the zoo GR, I imagine it's quite a large one.

GR, thank you so much for all the pics!
The big cats, especially leopards and snow leopards, are of course my favorites, but here the winner is the baby elephant!

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
Nice to see you gals enjoying the photos
Those trees and the lake are right near the leopards! From what you can see on this pictures, the leopards are sort of behind or at the back of that. So it really is a lovely area. One of the best in the world I am sure!
LW, I do not know how the zoo size compares to others, though to me it seems quite large. You would probably have to spend an entire day there to see everything (particularly with extra trips to the leopard enclosures ). I am sure that there are bigger zoos elsewhere though. Anyone know of what the most famous zoos are? Perhaps those would be bigger.
I'm glad you liked little Sanook CC

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
GR, I think one of the best (if not the biggest) is San Diego Zoo.
In Europe at least the zoos in Vienna and Berlin are very big, I believe they have some 15000 to 20000 animals and well over 1000 species each.
It is really difficult to say which one is the best. I think Helsinki Zoo is small but pretty good!
I'm so glad that you have understood that extra trips to leopards are essential!
Otherwise you might almost never see any of them.

Thanks for all the extra pics GR. Lovely to see the Giraffes, and those scene shots are great really looks nice and tranquil there. Nice to see the Waterbuck as well they always remind me of dartboards with the lines, but I have to award a frame to one of my big favourites, the Meerkat

"I'm so glad that you have understood that extra trips to leopards are essential! Otherwise you might almost never see any of them." Loved these comments CC!
I do not have any more trips planned to zoos right now, though there are nightime sessions happening at Werribee Zoo from June 29 for about two weeks. Perhaps they would already be booked out as they are very limited, but it's like a special camping experience so would be pretty awesome I am sure. If I feel any bigtime keenness for it early next month then I will look into making a booking. Otherwise I can still return to Melbourne Zoo whenever I like which is great. But next two weekends I have work, social activities and cycling viewing, so perhaps not! Then after that I will probably be super pumped to return to the snowies
for the zoo info CC
The waterbuck is officially a bongo WS, and boy do I love this name (and there are more pics of them to come!!!) In fact in the last two days I have noticed something awesome with Leo, that he has a bongoesque white stripe between his eyes. Bella has the same colour, but it's not such a stripe really. So my new call name for Leo is 'Bongo Boy'. I even tapped on his head a little, but I don't think he was too enamoured by that
for another wonderful framed pic WS. The meerkat is very deserving of it too I believe
A giraffe picture Doogsy? Yes please!

Very elusive
With the bear I am not sure if it's a brown or a grizzly

More - Okay now I am what is photo number 5? That Bongo has the most beautiful markings not only on his face but on his legs as well, what a stunning animal. Love the arty shot GR - were you upside down looking through your legs? Or am I completely mad?
Loving all the photos and of course the leopard ones too.

Loving all those extra photos GR, especially loving the Seahorse and the fish and the WAA award frame on the Meerkat WS is lovely
GR a night time visit to the zoo would be fantastic, I do hope you are able to do that, it would be such an experience, so fingers crossed you do decide to do it.
Thanks for the info on the zoo sizes Cremecat
I reckon your Bear is a Brown bear GR, or at least I think it is.

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
Pic five is a wombat; native Australian furry
The Bongo pic is an actual photo, taken on my legs with me sitting in the car. So you were kinda right Mrs Kipia!
Yes LW, I will consider this night time trip to the zoo some more. Could be quite the experience!

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
Thanks GR. I guess I am not used to seeing Wombats here in the UK
mmmmmm that shows my weird take on life then GR - sort of thing I would do (I mean the upside down bit)
A night time visit sounds such a fun idea, I bet you'd get a whole new perspective on the animals.
Loving the extra Bongo shots Onesie Man - did he enjoy the celery?
Mrs Kipia

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
Don't worry Mrs Kipia; weird is severely underated
The big bongo certainly likes his celery! Although it was a huge bucket that he had at his disposable, and I think he only got through about half of it, though that was still at least twenty sticks
I had fun feeding him
Now for some possible final pics from my second zoo adventure (though not of the actual animals ):
Finally uploading worked!

Re: Melbourne Zoo 2013!
Just caught up on here GR more great pics I can see from your latest pics that it's a Bongo now. On the first one from the back it looks like a Waterbuck from Africa. Love the shots
